Negru Voda : Våld De Luxe (3 x CD) [2011]

Although I am familiar with Peter Nyström's work as Megaptera, this is my first exposure to Negru Voda. The liner notes list influences like Test Dept, S.P.K., The Klinik, Cabaret Voltaire, Severed Heads, Einsturzende Neubauten, so you know that this is going to be a bit more raw and dirty. His MySpace page states that it sounds like 'Heavy steel works-machinery.' According to the press release, 'Compared to the perhaps darker, more layered sound of Megaptera, Negru Voda is stripped down, unrefined, and to the point ' old school, true to form, and primitive industrial music. . . Primarily built upon a strong foundation of punishing and persistent rhythms and cold, analogue pulsations, these are colossal soundscapes, where harsh, factory corrosion is met with insidious waves of distorted, electro-shock blasts streaked with highly ominous and bleak atmospherics as fueled by pints of lager, drams of Islay single malt, alienization, media wastelands, and cold Scandinavian winters.' Evidently this is a mix of new, unpublished recordings, coupled with a collection of out of print, re-mastered works, including the full length Dark Territory CD (Old Europa Cafe, 1998), plus 3 bonus tracks, the des Esseintes split 10' (Fin de Siecle, 2001), and the AVA: (dunk) picture 7' (Formosan, 2002).

Kristoffer Nyströms Orkester : Overlook Hotel [2012]

Kristoffer Nyströms Orkester (KNO) is a collaborative project between Swedish industrial legend Peter Nyström(Megaptera, Negru Voda), and Norwegian Kristoffer Oustad (V:28, Plague Machinery). Their latest release Overlook Hotel is a dark, nightmarish journey through sound.

The description provided for Overlook Hotel is so fitting and perfect;
“KNO welcomes you into the Overlook Hotel, where every room has a ghost and every room has a story to tell. Travel the hallways and explore, as you venture into a more cerebral musical state…”

This statement could not be any closer to the truth. KNO’s Overlook Hotel is forty-four minutes of creepy, ambient soundscapes that will get into your head and haunt you. The album as a whole utilize excellent mixes of noises, creepy sampling and ambient-industrial sounds to move you through the album. Yet each track is unique unto itself and they all work seamlessly together to create an eerie and foreboding journey.

Overlook Hotel is not an album you pop on while you have friends over for tea. It’s the album that you meditate to while going to your “dark place” or what you play to creep out your friends. Trust me, it will creep them out.

Kristoffer Nyströms Orkester : brakeHEAD [2006]

Kristoffer Nyströms Orkester (KNO) is a collaborative project between Peter Nyström (Megaptera/Negru Voda) and Kristoffer Oustad (V:28). A true sonic beat down, done in full Scandinavian style, with a battery of iron fisted rhythms hammering down in a thunderous downpour, and the caustic reverberations of the analog doom machine grinding and screeching in a symphony of clangorous and distressed beauty. This is an album that is as majestic as it is bleak, capturing the essence of old school Swedish industrial, but forging a new path towards a dark future.

 ‘brakeHEAD’ has redefined and rewritten the masculine muscle Industrial music handbook. Their jet stream leaving everyone else trailing far behind in their wake. The four tracks, 38 minutes, of colossal sounds were skilfully crafted from analogue synths, drum machine, processed guitar and additional effects and samples. The basic tools may be the same as everyone else’s but its how you use them that ultimately counts. Hearing ‘brakeHEAD’ is the sonic equivalent of peering into Joseph Conrad’s ‘Heart of Darkness’ and coming through the insane journey alive at the end. ‘Exterminate all the brutes!’ The music searching and reaching for a climatic ending as its merciless assaults pounds and grinds the ears in ever increasing nerve shredding ways. The evil intent of the barrages showing through even the quieter passages. ‘The horror! The horror!’ The dying words of Kurtz reinterpreted in all their glory by the final musical notes of the recording. Apocalypse 2006. Coming to a home near you soon.

Megaptera : You Will Never Survive This Nightmare [2006]

 "This release was an unexpected bonus for the 15 year anniversary of Megaptera, thanks to Stephen Petrus. It is a re-release of the tape "You Will Never Survive This Nightmare" that was released by Slaughter Productions in 1995 and a live recording from London in May, 2001." 

Survive Disc: 
Tracks 1-1 to 1-4 and 1-6 to 1-7 were taken from the first tape You Will Recover that was released by Nüxdorf Recordings in 1991 in a numbered edition of 10 copies. Track 1-5 is previously unreleased. Tracks 1-8 to 1-10 are taken from the tape Nightmares that was released in two editions, one by Anomalous Records and one by Slaughter Productions. 

Nightmare Disc: 
Tracks 2-1 and 2-2 are taken from the Slaughter Productions tape You Will Never Survive This Nightmare and were exclusive tracks to that release. Tracks 2-3 to 2-8 were recorded live in London, May 25th, 2001.

Megaptera : Extended Chaos [2006]

Comes in a digipak put inside an enhanced cardboard slipcase.. 
Consists of two old releases Beautiful Chaos and Near Death to celebrate the 15 years anniversary of Megaptera. 
The first disc is a re-release of the 1998 4-track MCD Beautiful Chaos that was released by Fever Pitch Music, USA. This time it's extended to 10 tracks. Extra material are the two tracks Shadowland and Sodom from the Death Odors compilation and the two tracks from the In The Butchers Backyard compilation. The CD ends with a remix of Final Day, signed The Protagonist, and a 9 min extended version of Shadowland, remixed by Peter Nyström and Magnus Sundström. 
The second disc is a re-release of Near Death, Megaptera's first official release from 1991. It was released as a 7-track cassette on the CMI-sidelabel Sound Source. On this CD, 3 bonus tracks are added from the same period. 

Handnumbered limited edition of 500 copies.
