Prometheus Burning : nBoyde raRepi [2007]

A few words should be said about Prometheus Burning itself. It is a female fronted duo (Greg VanEck & Nikki Telladictorian), based in Pittsburgh. Their music presents a mixture of complex rhythms, synthlines, noisy percussion, manifold glitches’n’scratches and vocal structures – sure it is not really easy to describe in a few words all the elements featured in their music.
As “Beyond Repair” was a very personal album for both musicians, each track on “nBoyde raRepi” seems to contain a mix of two personalities – a personality of Prometheus Burning and an artist that took on the task to remix this or that track. As a result, “nBoyde raRepi” turned out to be (or better to say stayed?) chaotic, hard-edged, heavy, insane and in a way personal. Probably the whole album can be called a kind of anagram: we listen to the versions and recognise certain tracks in them.

Iszoloscope : The Edge Of Certainty [2010]

One aspect of “The Edge of Certainty” that really does stand out, though, is a detached, almost clinical, precision: the mechanical aspect of the sound comes to the fore in the form of heavy dependence on sampled noise and machine-like drumming. Paradoxically, this serves to heighten the human element, as well – melodies and bass lines are highlighted in a weird biological/organic chiaroscuro. Ethereal choral elements on “In the Face of Descent” and nursery music box chimes on “Inseparable from the Void” are great examples of this, a no-man’s-land forming the shifting boundary between the creative impulse of music composition and the structured, mechanical process of sequencing hard-hitting industrial rhythms.
In summation: “The Edge of Certainty” is not as wildly noisy as Ah Cama-Sotz, nor as blatantly aggressive as Converter; not as unconstrained as Winterkälte, nor as atmosphere-driven as Mono No Aware. But it shares common ground with all of these, just refined and distilled into an album that is as much music as it is therapy. Truly, a really impressive album that supercedes the standard view of industrial music by the simple expedient of adding intelligent content over mere offensiveness.

Iszoloscope + Ebola Split [2004]

A really good split that throws two artists together that are in the same music genre, but carry out their methods much different. First up is Iszoloscope, who does rhythmic noise with plenty of drum work and percussion thrown in.
Ebola's tracks are quite interesting... and while I know next to nothing about this artist i'll try to do him justice with this. Ebola's 3 tracks use a lot of distorted sounds to build noisey, crunchy tracks. All in all a really good listen.

Iszoloscope + Antigen Shift : The Blood Dimmed Tide [2002]

Seeing how these two artists live in the same hometown, are good friends in real life, and both create rhythmic noise with their music... it was no surprise that they got together to do a collaboration split. Track 1, which is an intro, is both artists working together while track 2 is just Antigen Shift and track 3 would be Iszoloscope. The method works well and even though its two different artists here, they blend the theme of the CD well. If you are a fan of either project then you know you can expect some crunchy noise with a bunch of samples thrown in. Definitley my favorite 3" CD that I own... I hope these 2 collaborate again someday.

By the time I post this, I have downloaded just the first two RAR files. The video is pretty good, however the audio's volume is really low therefore it must be turned up to the max to listen to it. Due to its sound,  KM  Player is recommended because its sound is louder than any other video player.   

BTW, if you'd like to check out/preview the video (by checking the 'Keep the broken file' RAR menu option, in case you dunno how), FYI the extracted file is in ISO format which in turn can also be extracted by using RAR . Nevertheless, the best bands are in the Phase 3. The first songs are by the Horrorist (the one in the pics above) whom I've never heard of before. Pretty generic beats a la Trance. But, pretty nice laptops (and girl) by the way. (*_*)

Montreal's Kinetik Festival is just around the corner! For years
now, Kinetik (formerly Coma) has been a growing and significant  
part of Canada's industrial scene, and 2009 cements the Kinetik
Festival's status as North America's premier festival for dark  
EBM, noise, industrial, and synthpop music. Not only has the  
festival expanded to include a fourth day, but this year will  
see several big name acts hit the stage including Project
Pitchfork, Das Ich, Winterkalte, Ayria, Grendel, Assemblage 23  
and more!
Artoffact Records presents the official Kinetik Festival Volume
2 double-CD compilation which includes 32 killer tracks from the  
festival's world class line-up. Nearly half the tracks are  
compilation exclusives, while several more are hard-to-find  
rarities. Interlace, Noisex, Memmaker, Life Cried, DYM,  
Assemblage 23, and many more provide exclusives. Several other
big name acts are remixed by the likes of Imperative Reaction,  
Combichrist, Suicide Commando, Blank, and Ashbury Heights. The  
compilation will be strictly limited, and as Volume 1 sold out

Camanecroszcope : Echoes Ov Who Lieth Dead But Ever Dreameth [2003]

An extensive masterpiece is the right description for this album. Dark in the best CMI industrial/ soundscape tradition, but then on the Belgian Spectre label. The combined forces of Ah Cama-Sotz and Iszoloscope is however better in writing tension filled songs than most of the CMI acts. Floating, almost choir like, voices are completed with frightening, cold, but well thought of, electro sounds. The result is a barren, demonic landscape with on the other hand a feeling of recognition and safety. Camanecroszcope does it tastefully.
