Converter : Blast Furnace [2000] | FLAC

"Blast Furnace is a great work, full of wonderfully unique and fresh sonic treats; its sounds are contagious and filled with energy and impulse that surpasses any of the peers in the genre. Converter once again amazes me with his ability to create clean (no matter how strange it sounds speaking of rhythm'n'noise) soundscapes, where all elements and layers are carefully controlled. At this time Converter manages to incorporate and transform a large number of outside influences into one explosive mix that once again sets Converter aside from similar artists, proving his ability to create truly unique, standard-setting music."

Thorns

I'm really busy these days remixing and remastering my covers/remixes of Wumpscut and Esplendor Geométrico tracks for my demo CD-R for my project Thorns. This demo has 3 tracks, one of them is called "Esplendor" which you can hear in this blog by clicking on the NOW PLAYING play button on the right. The tracks has samples from various sources such as Saw, Alien vs Predator, Diary of Dreams as well as my own voice (heh.. heh..). This demo is just for fun and also 'cos my friends urged me to release it. I also designed the cover and stuff. Right now I'm trying to upload the tracks. When they're done I'll post 'em here.

"Think of the newer ambient-orientated acts on CMI’s roster – Letum, Foundation Hope, Atrium Carceri, et al and imagine them melded together and distilled into their darkest and most disturbing essence and that should provide a rough idea of Vestigial’s predominant sound. This perception is supported through a combination of the dominant murky atmosphere, muffled and manipulated voices, synthetic strings, drones and a few bursts of static."

"This second CD by Dismantled sounds much more mature and original than the debut, which isn't bad either...
The associations with Front Line Assembly have not disappeared entirely, but are not irritatingly present anymore. Dismantled has become a mature and original band with a style of their own. A distinct style indeed. The music is quite hectic, sometimes almost even neurotic."

"Music-wise as well as production-wise this is a top album. The layered industrial of Postnuclear has taken an intelligent route on Standard issue with a take towards crossover pop realms. This has been done in a way comparable to the music of Nine Inch Nails. Do not think that the music actually sounds like it, as it is more the delicate and emotional tension in the music of Dismantled that creates these resemblances.'

"The music is pretty similar to that of Diary of Dreams. But Diorama is softer and has some nice dark wave influences as well. The good vocals and the complete absence of metal guitars contribute to making this a rather unordinary album. This is not traditional gothic rock - more calm gothic dark wave stuff with synthesizers. The music is far from happy and you can almost guess Diorama is a German band. You get eleven good songs on this album, one of the best gothic releases this year."

Sophia : Deconstruction Of The World [2004]

All percussion is again acoustic and is performed in a military sort of way, militant rhythms and bombastic orchestration sometimes make place for more tranquil dark ambient tracks. Industrial rhythms and singing by monks, influenced by the old In Slaughter Natives go well together with samples from horror movies and machines, through which a cold and sinister atmosphere is created.

MUSIC REVIEW SITES

In case you're wondering about the music of artists on this blog, these are music review sites that, I think, are pretty good in describing them. Some of the sites have various forms of rating system which are very helpful and useful.

• SITE : http://www.gothtronic.com
• COVERED GENRES : darkwave, industrial, gothic, synth/future pop, ambient, ethereal, dark ambient, experimental, neo classical
• RATING SYSTEM : scale (1 until 10)
• NOTE : Extremely huge list of artists who are reviewed on this site, from brutal noise to soothing ambient are here. Certainly one of the best review sites on the web. Unlike many sites, the reviewers are many, not just one person.

-------------------------------

• SITE : http://www.chaindlk.com
• COVERED GENRES : darkwave, industrial, gothic, synth/future pop, ambient, dark ambient, experimental, neo classical
• RATING SYSTEM : star (* until *****)
• NOTE : Another good review site covering many genres/styles even though not as extensive as the above-mentioned site. The reviewers are also more than just one person. The plus of this site is the huge library of interviews with various artists.

-------------------------------

• SITE : http://www.heathenharvest.com
• COVERED GENRES : industrial, ambient, dark ambient, experimental, neo classical, neo folk
• RATING SYSTEM : not available
• NOTE : In terms of industrial subgenres, you won't find electro-industrial or aggrotech artists here because the site focuses more on the "less popular", more experimental subgenres like power electronics, noise, rhythmic/power noise, death industrial, and other abrasive stuff. Many martial industrial CDs are also reviewed on this site. The reviewers are many. If you want to find a review about an obscure artist, this is a good place to start.

-------------------------------

• SITE : http://www.wrappedinwire.com
• COVERED GENRES : darkwave, industrial, gothic, synth/future pop
• RATING SYSTEM : grade (A, B, C, D)
• NOTE : In terms of genres/subgenres, this site focuses ONLY on electro-industrial, EBM, aggrotech (or industrial WITH vocals) plus darkwave, gothic rock, future/synth pop. You won't find many reviews about rhythmic/power noise, noise, power electronics, dark ambient, experimental or instrumental stuff here. The reviewer is only one person who often clearly states that he dislikes the more experimental side of industrial as well as ambient and instrumental stuff (how narrow-minded...). In other words, the site only reviews music with traditional structure and vocal. Therefore, don't be surprised/offended if in the middle of a CD review, this guy complains about the existence of experimental or instrumental tracks in the CD.

Enjoy! *_*

Cold Fusion : Occupatria [2005]

The desperate cry for freedom, cruelly smothered by a ruthless aggressor, reverberates in the classical elements as well as in the mechanized and armour-plated rhythms. Also the sombre piano playing, the symphonic undertone that's consistently present, the all too familiar sounds of violent warfare and the incorporeal choirs emanating from the ruins of heavily bombed theatres guard Occupatria from becoming light-hearted.
